Musical Tarot Idea - Suggestions Needed :)

Vladaria

After trying to find a music themes tarot I liked for a friend (without success) I've decided to make one (just the majors at first).
This is the idea:
I'm thinking of having a song for the theme of each card.
E.g. The Fool - Beatles, Fool on the Hill, fool going up a hill eyes on the horizon withthe sunrise (or is it the sunset) beckoning..
The Magician - Queen, It's a Kind of Magic freddy mercury style
magician with blue frock coat outfit. I'm sure there are possibilities there..

Still thinking about the other cards & songs etc I've only got so far it's quite hard when you start thinking about the lyrics...
Any input greatly appreciated....hmmm this might be a great community deck theme ~ 21 people 21 cards (or even more including the minors....)

So far:
The Fool: Beatles ~ Fool on the Hill
The Magician: Queen ~ It's a Kind of Magic
The High Priestess ~ Stairway to Heaven
The Empress ~ Respect - Aretha Franklin
The Emperor ~
The Hierophant ~
The Lovers ~ All You Need Is Love - The Beatles
The Chariot ~ Get your Motor Running
Strength ~ Eye of The Tiger
The Hermit ~ Blowin' In The Wind ?
The Wheel of Fortune ~
Justice ~
The Hanged Man ~ Everybody Hurts
Death ~ Bad To The Bone / Dont Pay the Ferryman?
Temperance ~
The Devil ~ Devil Went Down To Georgia
The Tower ~ I've Gotta Get a Message to You
The Star ~
The Moon ~ Bad Moon Rising
The Sun ~ Walking on Sunshine
Judgement ~
The World ~ Heaven Is A Place On Earth?

Hi Vlad,

there are threads for all the cards in the Tarot Games & Fun section http://www.tarotforum.net/forumdisplay.php?f=62

You may have to browse some pages to get there, but there are loads of suggestions for every card, so you'll have trouble choosing ;)
All the threads start with "Songs to represent" and then the name of the card, in case you want to run a search.

I love your idea and I'm sure your friend will, too.

If you're doing an actual deck, please share it with us in Tarot Deck Creation!

I did an entire Tarot "soundtrack" myself - I don't know if you'd agree with my taste in music, but when I do my "Metaphorical Tarot", I am going to include each song as a suggestion for music in the booklet (this should be all right as merely plugging a song doesn't violate copyright [sis is a lawyer]).

0 - Prologue (Loreena McKennitt)
1 - The Mystic's Dream (Loreena McKennitt)
2 - Song of Solomon (Kate Bush)
3 - The Memory of Trees (Enya)
4 - The Mighty One (Moir`e Brennan)
5 - Pax Deorum (Enya)
6 - Dark Night of the Soul - Loreena McKennitt ("O night that joined the lover to the beloved one/Transforming each of them into the other...")
7 - Where the Streets Have No Name (U2)
8 - Sapientie [Strength] (Jocelyn Montgomery/David Lynch)
9 - Prospero's Speech (Loreena McKennitt)
10 - Cursuum Perficio (Enya)
11 - Dea Noctu [Justice] (The Moors)
12 - Passion (Peter Gabriel)
13 - 'Til Death Do Us Unite (Avrigus)
14 - Dant`e's Prayer (Loreena McKennitt)
15 - Flesh (Avrigus)
16 - Qliphoth (Avrigus)
17 - Aldebaran (Enya) [=> GORGEOUS]
18 - Moon Meditation & Prayer (The Moors) [the single most spookily MOONY piece of music I have ever heard!]
19 - Pilgrim's Way (Moir`e Brennan)
20 - It Is Accomplished (Peter Gabriel)
21 - Bread & Wine [segues from last song] (Peter Gabriel)

For the Minors, I wanted to pick out Courts (maybe) & then just have 1 song for each suit, but I haven't gotten to the Courts yet. ;)

For Wands - "Desert Rose" (Sting/Cheb Mami) ["Desert" mix]
For Swords - "Flame & Vision (Jocelyn Montgomery/David Lynch) [sounds of ringing steel] (The rest of this CD is of Hildegard von Bingen's music with a Goth update)
For Cups - "The Holy Grail" (Avrigus)
For Pentacles (or Coins) - "Marrakesh Night Market" (Loreena McKennitt)

If I can come up with Courts, I'll be back... ;)

I thought of more songs:

The devil: Sympathy for the devil - Rolling Stones

The hanged man: Gallows Pole - Led Zeppelin

Mary Fire Queen

I always liked the Smashing Pumpkins song "Shame" for the tower. It is so meaningful to me. It was written in the period after my favorite Pumpkin, Jimmy, the drummer, was forced out of the band due to drug use. Billy - their lead singer and the songwriter of "Shame" - has never said it was written for Jimmy but I take it as such representing Jimmy's tower moment, and sympathy for him.

The music is very simple, and the album version very obviously has no live drums, but rather a drum machine, underscoring what a different group of people the band is without their friend.

most, but not all, of the equally simple lyrics follow

"You're gonna walk on home
you're gonna walk alone
you're gonna see this through
don't let 'em get to you
Sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-shame Sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-shame

you're gonna walk on home
you're gonna walk alone
you're gonna walk so far
you're gonna wonder who you are...
Sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-shame Sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-shame

hello-goodbye-you know you made us cry"
