What would you say is the scariest/creepiest Tarot deck?

I have the Hanson-Roberts (my first and favorite deck) and am in love with Legacy of the Divine Tarot, so it is funny how tastes can differ so much. I guess that's why there are so many tarots to choose from.

Some of the decks here are really disturbing though... The Alchemical Wedding one is definitely not for me!

EEEW! just had a look at the Alchemical Wedding, it looks like someone has had some really bad nightmares and decided to share all with us. No thank you.

I'm surprised to find myself saying that the Crowley Thoth is pretty darn near the top of my list. I even like the artwork. Yet it always seems unwholesome.

I'm not as surprised as Debra. When i was a child my brother told me that he felt the Thoth seethed with evil. Over the years i have never disagreed with that remark. Mrs. Harris' art is fascinating, often quite beautiful, BUT what i perceive as the subtext of the images is absolutely unfriendly to me as a living human being.

LOL!
Well, I didn't have that many decks yet when I got my hands on that deck and was totally creeped out. Now that I see it, I think.. ok, maybe it is not that bad, but I still find it creepy. Too much insides showing...

that is the way I feel about the Mary-El Aces, total creep bomb.
It also feels like a private deck and it sort of embarrasses me to see images when posted, it just doesn't seem polite to be looking. I will never be in my shopping cart!

How abot the Lunatic? It is really creepy....bondage, little girls with huge tits, all manner of sickness...presented in a somehow-innocent manner.

The cards shown here are tame, but a lot of the deck isn't.

You guys talk about cults and baby killing like those are bad things. As far as cults go, one imaginary friend is pretty much as good as another. The only difference between a cult and a religion is public acceptance. Baby killing...there has to be a jillion babies...I think 80% of fertilized eggs abort on their own. Killing babies is kind of a hobby for God. Besides, babies are stinky, noisy, and expensive...my gassy cat smells better than some babies.

But on to other thoughts that occur at 4AM. I am fascinated by the range of responses here. They certainly reflect a wide range of tastes. Personally, I like the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot.

The one that gives me the creeps...the RWS. Please let me explain...

The artwork for this deck was done in England in the early 1900's. One night while looking at strange things on the internet I came across a web page that talked about the state of dental health in England during this time. Since then I noticed that all the people in the RWS have their mouths shut.

I then started wondering what they would look like if they opened their mouths. I got this picture in my mind of picket-fence rows of teeth, black and green and festering with some odd bubbling coming from a few.

I have never looked at that deck the same way since. Every time I see a person in the card I wonder what their teeth would look like if they opened their mouth.

My current love, on someone's creep list in this thread, is the second edition of the Victorian Romantic. It just seems beautiful to me but at the same time creeps someone else out.

That's just how life is.

I am searching for a deck that has both.dark and light elements. I was looking at the Mary-El, and was very interested until I saw the Lovers card. Something about the image of the older man ogling the woman's breasts and the detached look on her face reminds me of how a master would take his female slaves at night. I am reviewing the image and trying to read it as a balance between the sexes and how the female looks to the heavens, but am still feeling...icky. It really is affecting my decision, which is unfortunate because I am looking for a.deck that is just.a.tad.darker than what I am used to. (world spirit...which has darker.images but was cartoon-like. I loved it though) I may change my mind...

I have read several posts that AT readers said the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot freaked them out. I don't have it, but wondering how many here think it's scary.
I have had that deck 3 times now. I kept getting it and getting weird about it. I was really interested in it so I would buy it again and get creeped out again and sell it. I finally kept a copy but I haven't done anything with it. IN the chance that voodoo is real, which it seems to be, I don't know if I want to invite all those spirits into my house, lol. I'm sure one day I'll get it out and take a good look at the book, etc. It seemed like a large learning curve with all those spirits you had to read about in order to use the deck and really understand it.
Anyone else use the deck?
