To each their own
The Lovers as love (sexual or whatever) makes a heluva lot more sense than choice.
I don't want to enter this discussion again as I've said really EVERYTHING I had to say on this subject-probably too much !- but I will just say that one interpretation doeesn't rule out the other-it all depends on context and surrounding cards.....in my experience, it often comes up when there is attraction, a sexual relationship, or even being in love-which doesn't mean it will last forever, or be a happily ever after, but that doesn't mean that, in other context, the Lovers could mean something else....
Absolutely!! Besides, one can have anxiety and difficulty choosing BECAUSE both suitors seem equally attractive sexually. It does depend on the reading, the question, the context AND the other cads that accompany it.
Someone somewhere in this long discussion said at one point that each card will come up with the meaning that that particular reader attaches to it....as if whoever it is out there that "send us" the info, knows what the right language to use with us is....I think that was a very good point also. To me, the Lovers has never meant choice, and from my experience of reading for myself, and the feedback I got from others, it's always confirmed that...again, love often entails a choice of some kind, so in that sense it could make sense....but I do believe that you cannot totally detach that card completely from the basic idea of LOVERS...somewhere there there is attraction, love, sex....I honestly can't see how it can represent a triangle, when so clearly there are TWO LOVERS there....if there is a triangle-which again, often happens-there must be, in my opinion, other cards to support that....possible a three...? Three of cups, for example...? 3 of swords ?
But again everyone has his/her own way to read cards..... and the same cards talk to each of us in different ways....
In real life (from my very own personal experience reading for myself) and when reading for others, this card always pointed to some sort of "triangle" in love. Definitely not the "soul mate, love, meant to be together, happilyeveraftertheend" that many cookbook meanings portray. It always ended with the one I (or the querent) wanted choosing somebody else.
I must have been out of my mind, but what's done is done. *sigh*LRichard.....I AM SPEECHLESS....after ALL THIS.....YOU ARE COMING TO MY SIDE ???????
Then which card represents the archetype of true love? 2 people living happily ever after? 2 of cups and 10 of cups?
