Trimmed Borders/Altered Decks Index

For an odd reason, trimming seems to be one of the most effective enabling tools at the moment !! Makes you wonder why most publishers insist on adding borders and some quite large as well…
Amazing work, hemera

Old English

Has anybody here trimmed the Old English and cut off the titles? I see GeorgiePorgie did a beautiful job with titles, and personally I like the font, but I'm wondering how it would look without...

Some people swear by a 3mm corner rounder. It's probably subtler. But I have found that a 5mm one is easier to find, much cheaper and basically all you'll ever need.

If you want to keep the corners intact (like with the Thoth, or some Marseille historic reproductions), fine grit sandpaper will blunt the edges without losing the square corner look.

I use a 2.5mm Zutter for TdM decks because all I want to lose are the hurty points of the corners and at this size I keep the rectangular effect. Also, the Noblet is quite a small deck and I thought that if I took too much off the corners they'd start to look - not quite right.

For RWS I tend to go with the size of the cards; Inner Child has very large cards and needed much more of a bite out of the corners than the Karma Tarot (which just looks so much better without those huge titles at the bottom!)

I did my Noblet with the 5mm --which was quite the chore, because the cardstock is either too thick, or too heavily laminated, or SOMETHING-- and now it basically looks normal, as if it came like that. I suspect a 5mm cut is the industry standard.

That said, I wish I had known back then the trick with the sandpaper. I did it to my AGM Thoth after trimming it, and the corners still look nice and pointy but the ouch factor is gone.

I did my Noblet with 5mm too. I think it looks pretty natural, like it was made this way. The cutter did a really good job; they are smooth and perfect. I found a pic from when I did it - the little nipped-off corners kind of look like tiny birds. :)

That said, I'm holding out for 3mm or even 2mm for my Daniloff and Madenie. I like how Wu phrased it as keeping the rectangular effect. The cheapest I've found the cutters is $35-$40 though! Has anyone found a less expensive cutter in the dinky sizes?

I thought about using scissors and taking off just the very point of the corner, but I know in my heart that I will be unhappy if the cards are not even.

That's how mine look. Like I said, I suspect it's a standard. And yes, they do look like birds! :D

That's the problem. The most I have spent for this is around $12 for a pair of 10" scissors --well, spent, though. What a difference! But they are sharp and pointy to the point of being dangerous.

Noblet looks good!
NO scissors!!! .... Especially if you will end up mad at yourself that they are not even.

I have looked for for a 3mm corner rounder too. I couldn't find anything less than a 5mm at Amazon.

There are these from Oregon Lamination. I found them on Amazon US, but they are less expensive from the company (and it looks like they do flat rate shipping, don't quote me though, as I barely looked into that). ETA I lied, they seem to be the same price on Amazon (link)

OK, here's another (recommended by BSwett in another thread) Sun-Star Kadomaru Pro Corner Cutter - definitely more in my price range, and does 3mm as well as 5 and 8.

I found some cheaper ones, but so many of them don't even say what their radius is! And some have bad reviews.

Edit: Removed link to another one - sorry, I think that was 5mm after all

I'm on my phone and its difficult going through the pages... since the main post hasn't been updated could anybody tell me if there are pictures of any Il Meneghello decks with rounded corners? I can't decide if I want to try it or not! Thank you :)
