De-Enabling Thread

You may not buy another historical deck until you know how to read with them. You can't buy decks thinking "oh, once I have decks A, B, C, D ... Q, I will have a basis and get serious about learning how to read with them." That never works.

Trust me, I know.

You have one. Learn with it. Love it. When you are comfortable reading with it, and I mean THOROUGHLY comfortable, then you may buy another.

And since you know you will never gain the comfort level you have with the pattern you learned on, then you will never be thoroughly comfortable, and never buy another. But the unattainable goal will keep you engaged ...

Ohhh good point. I should probably cross those Minchiates off my list too... :(

Heck yes - they even have too many cards. MOST confusing !

Most definitely, tarotmama - I adore(d) Minchiates. Loved the hell out of them for all those fascinating extra cards. And even I have given up on understanding, learning, studying or buying them :(

3 possibilities for my next tarot purchase (old english and sun and moon are cheaper so i could buy them both for the same/less amount of money)

The lunatic is rather soft porn in places. Some of it even a bit "eeeurgh!" especially the extra cards. Well one of them. Also it is very brown.

The Old English is pretty much unusable because it has an odd system all of its own. Pretty but vacuous.

The Classic is all errrm historical and stuff. Can you read with a pips deck? Honestly?

The Sun and Moon - the keywords are dreadful. I actually sent the deck back to amazon, that's how bad they are. I will not have one in the house.

ncharge

lunatic - A hanged man with nipple clamps? Really? Somewhat more B&D than one would expect with a Hanged Man. And every woman with a size D cup staring you in the eyes and trying to flop in your face.

sun and moon. What's up with the people? They all look like they were drawn by a kindergardner. I heard someone refer to it as the Tarot of the Potato People. Just about every other element of the deck is better drawn than that. Except the tree on the Hanged Man - somebody forgot to draw the middle. We have only trunk and limb tips. And the alligator on the fool. May I take back that last sentence - the people are not the worst part of the artwork. The only thing I do like about the deck is the back of the cards.

No - that's where you get this wrong. You will not be MAKING a tarot purchase. The rest of your post is therefore academic.

QED. The end. Now have a chocolate biscuit ! :D

Umm... how I can do that while I have 3 of them? lol :p

Lunatic: Quite expensive for a normal deck with some intrusive images
The back of the cards feel metalic and it smells rather bad too. It does not come with the LWB.

Old English: LWB does not provide any good information. Minor cards are like pips, having only some small scenes below the suits.
As such, you may not be able to read without searching for more information like this;

:p

Sun and Moon; Oh... another Cornflake-board cardstock. Is it based on RWS, Thoth or its own system you never know; though, the keywords suggest that it is Thoth?

Classic Tarot: It is not really CLASSIC. Ancient Italian Tarot from the same publisher seems to be more classic. And Pips again!!

:)

Classic tarot is the original Soprafino, but with garish re-coloring and bizarre, irritating keywords.

Ancient Italian reproduces a later, fairly good Soprafino knockoff; fortunately with antiqueish colors and no keywords. Titles in Italian only (which I consider a plus, but not everyone might).

Il Meneghello's Soprafino Tarot is a faithful reproduction of the original Soprafino, but it's un-laminated.

And they all have the problem with pips.

Suitably de-enabled yet? ;)

Cassandra022

i already have a number of pips decks so that doesn't really de-enable me. I think you guys pretty much fully denabled me from lunatic though. I mean, its most expensive, its soft porn, hanged man has nipple clamps, AND it smells bad?!?

xD

how exactly is the old english unreadable/having a different system?

i actually like the quirky potatoness of the sun and moon, but whats this about cardstock?

not making much progress with de-enabling me from classic, honestly...
