Hel-heim, land of the dead,

Realm of Hella

Home of those who suffer the straw death and die not in battle

Thank you for sharing that,
My FIL sprang to mind when I read the above. There are a lot of bad ways to die, but for me dementia is a straw death that tops the list.

So true. :(

I had read on another site, that Nift heim, land of the Frost Giants was where those who died violently went there after death, then they went to heaven. Like they are shocked & frozen in time, that they died the way they did. Once their death is accepted, they can pass on to peace. (My words)

In looking at Hella I thought about those who grow old & die in bed, hence the straw. Suffering being the key word. Makes a fast death look so much better.

Fascinating stuff, must admit!

Been reading, online & looking over this jpg of the 9 worlds. One way to read this throw would be this...just my thinking, mind you!

North/Nift-heim
Frozen in time or awaiting release

South/Muspells-heim
Things that aren't working for you. This is against you. Things you worry about.

East/Jotun-heim
What can harm you, is above you.

West/Vana-heim
What can be a blessing for you

Midguard
You at this time

Alf-heim
What is above you, to benefit you

Asgard
Your goal, what can be attained with dedication & hard work

Svart-heim
Beneath you, supports you & your life.

Hel-heim
Past, gone. Lived out it's life/worth

Since the runes speak to family & "tribe" then the above things can be read for not just the person but the entire unit of one's world. Just my thoughts, like I said! ;)
Edited to add; reminds me of a celtic cross spread.

LOL - Wow, Barbara - that little clip was so surprising!

First of all, it did a great job of illustrating 3 rune spreads. But the music was, well, let's just say it's not what you'd expect for such an esoteric subject. And that guy looks like he'd be more at home at a NASCAR event; just goes to show ya - don't always judge a book by its cover!

I know, right?
I kept watching him handling the runes & thought to myself, "Hey man, wanna beer?" LOL!

I had thought there were more rune items on there, but haven't really looked through it yet.

I was unimpressed, anyone can pull runes out of a bag and lay them out...he didn't READ them! Pretty runes though, they looked like soapstone to me.

But there is a interesting link on the same page

Well crap.
Book info, only on you tube.
I'll leave the links here though in case anyone doesn't have a book. Visuals may help.
