The Etteillas; remind me again

Le Fanu

If I wanted to compare the Etteilla decks, am I right in assuming there are 3 basic ones (not wanting to split hairs)?

Which ones are commercially/ easily available?

Correct me if I'm wrong;

Etteilla I

This would be the Classic Grimaud Grand Etteilla Tarot.

Etteilla II

Here I draw a blank. Any ideas? Is there any Mass Market version of an Etteilla II deck? The nearest I get - and not MM - is this one, which is about to be published.

Etteilla III

Book of Thoth Etteilla, originally Grand Jeu de Oracle des Dames (1870) with Julia Orsini instructions. Also published by Dusserre.

Also perhaps the Jeu de la Princess, published by LoS as Ancient Esoteric Tarot. Or is this Etteilla II?

Is that right?

'Tis Cerulean you want :heart: She's gone and fell in love with Etteillas.

I just can't find it now, but I am sure that someone has just (or is just about to do it) published a reprint of the Etteilla II deck.
There must be a thread about it somewhere on AT.
This is quite new.

The LOS edition of the Etteilla III is named: The book of Thot and is available.
This one you mention is another Etteilla deck and is usually not numbered as Type I, II or III.
It is the Jeu de la princesse Tarot published by Watilliaux
I believe that the Lo Scarabeo edition named Esoteric Ancient Tarot is OOP.
But it is here and there still to find.

Thanks coredil. I knew about this one and it's on my radar. But I'm guessing this is a limited edition. I was wondering if the major publishers had published one.

Either way, I think I shall buy this one. Has anyone ordered it? Looks very nice. I'm curious to hear opinions and whether they have started sending them out yet...

Gregory, it can be bought direct from the designer, maybe cheaper on the postage front;

Yes, I have the small modern reprint designed after the Etteilla II

It is a charming novelty and the designs seem quite similar to the 1890 Lismon.

The lines and look of this recreation has the artistic recoloring, some changes in design, some fading or breaks---but I think the artist had used an older model for her work.

I haven't done the comparison of this small artistic novelty in a card by card/book illustration comparison too closely with my older decks, because I didn't categorize it as historical.

For most people, it's a lovely and affordable and feels close enough.
